The Dauphiné craft brewery was founded by Vincent Gachet in 2002 in Saint-Martind’Hères, not far from Grenoble. Between 2011 and 2015, with the help of the renowned travelling distiller Gilles Gaudet, Gachet distilled the equivalent of two casks. Unable to reconcile beer and whisky production, he eventually created the independent bottler AlpSpirits in 2016 and bought four barrels of peated whisky from the Rozelieures distillery in Lorraine.
This expression, peated to 35 ppm, was filled from one of these and matured first in an oloroso sherry cask before being transferred to a Pineau Des Charentes barrel and finally finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask.
The flavour and aroma palette is sprinkled with fruity, floral and tropical sequences but focuses above all on peat and its smoky, medicinal, meaty and ashy tones.
