Each bottle is drawn from a unique European oak cask at The Balvenie, individually labeled with its cask details. Distilled in 2012, this single malt has matured in casks that once held Montilla wine, a rich and sweet wine from Spain’s Montilla region. Similar to sherry yet with its own regional character, Montilla brings a distinctive depth to this expression.
These casks, locally known as bodegas butts, were painstakingly rebuilt by our team of coopers. Throughout maturation, our Malt Master, Kelsey, noted that each cask develops a refined and indulgent Balvenie style, reminiscent of sherry-aged Balvenie with its own elegant twist.
