Like a good book, this elegant old Speysider builds with time and gains in character - be prepared to give it a good hour in the glass to open up. Aromas of banana bread, leather and wax mingle with fresher fruit notes to create an incredibly deep nose. This profile continues on the palate, which has a beautifully aged character, with notes of spiced custard and cardamom caramel. Notes of praline join those of dried apricot and a pleasant hint of rancio. Persistent spice and fruit are accompanied by an unexpected whiff of wood smoke on the finish. This is a wonderful example of what Speyside does best.
