Situated just south of Pitlochry, in the picturesque Vale of Athol, Blair Athol distillery is known for its rich, nutty, malty character and the ivy that drapes its historic walls, changing with the seasons.
This 12-year-old single malt, finished in an ex-Margaux cask, elevates Blair Athol’s robust malt character to new heights. The nose unfolds with buttery caramel biscuits and wild dark berries, with blackcurrant taking centre stage. Adding a drop of water reveals a ripe orchard: juicy apples, pears, and a twist of orange peel. The palate is luxurious and silky, intertwining robust malt with vibrant fruit notes. The finish gently fades with echoes of malt, crisp green apple, and a refined herbal flourish.
This whisky is part of the Odyssey range, an annual collection of 20 carefully selected casks, re-racked for a second maturation of at least three years. Each bottle explores the possibilities of controlled aging, charting a unique journey through the influence of the wood.
