South of Pitlochry, in the heart of Perthshire, Blair Athol is one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries. It produces a warm, indulgent style marked by toasted cereals, ripe fruits, and woodland notes.
This single cask, having undergone an extended finish of more than three years in a Pomerol cask, offers a unique interpretation of Blair Athol’s distillate. The nose opens with stewed red fruits, gentle spices, and a floral touch. The palate, rich and textured, combines blackcurrant, cherry, crème brûlée, and black plum, enhanced by the refined vinous character of Bordeaux oak and a hint of citrus. The finish lingers with echoes of mulled wine, dried fruits, and damp wood.
This whisky is part of the Odyssey range, an annual collection of 20 casks carefully selected and re-racked for a secondary maturation of at least three years. Each one explores the possibilities of controlled aging, charting a unique journey through the influences of wood.
