Each year since 2018, the Japanese distillery Chichibu, founded by Ichiro Akuto in 2008, creates a new blend dedicated to the City of Light: Chichibu Paris Edition. The 2024 edition pays tribute to the most beautiful monuments of Paris and Tokyo. Six versions of labels printed on washi, a traditional Japanese paper, highlight these buildings that have become symbols of their respective cities. In a mirrored pairing, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and Notre-Dame de Paris are each matched with a Tokyo landmark: the Tokyo Tower, the Meiji Jingu Gate, and the Kōkyo Imperial Palace. This is a way to rediscover this remarkable architectural heritage through tasting.
Chichibu Paris Edition 2024 is a blend of twelve bourbon barrels, two quarter casks (chibidaru), and a cask that previously contained red wine, with an average age of six to seven years. An uninterrupted sequence of aromatic and gustatory phases, its strength of character is matched only by its elegance and freshness of expression. Following in the footsteps of the 2023 edition, a more subtle peat note sets the tone for a tasting that constantly gains in richness and complexity.
