Laphroaig is one of the few distilleries in Scotland to malt part of its own barley (15%). Dried in a peat kiln for 12 to 15 hours, then in warm air for 10 hours, it is used to create whiskies peated to between 50 and 60 ppm. Moving through empyreumatic tones and earthier sequences before ending in a grand finale of rich and oily peat, the flavour and aroma palette becomes continually more powerful throughout the tasting. Generous fruit dimensions (citrus, tropical) develop in the same rythm.
