Aged for at least 10 years in carefully selected bourbon and sherry cask, Bushmills' Vino Dulce single malt was further finished in casks that contained Spanish sweet wine. Bushmills is the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world. It has been in existence since 1608, when Shakespeare was still writing his plays, making them the pioneers of Irish single malt. As master distiller Colum Egan says, “We still make whiskey the old-fashioned way, the way our great-grandparents and their great-grandparents made it”. All single malts are made exclusively from 100 % Irish malted barley and pure water from St Columb's Rill, a tributary of the River Bush, which flows over basalt rocks, giving the whiskeys a unique character.
